Birds in Texas (and a gratuitous shot of the Alamo)

Today I did not want to drag myself out of bed.

I drove cross country from Texas up to Indiana, by myself, with two children in tow. (Not literally, although that may have been nice at a couple of points.) I got back here Tuesday. Must....get...home...in...time....for....Ash Wednesday.

Why was I so insane?

I spent Fat Tuesday (night) chugging down a large-large chocolate shake from Chik-fil-a, partly to keep alert, partly to get in that last sugar fix before Lent, while driving those last, hardest miles. I debated adding a nut covered brownie to the mix, but refrained. You see, it was only Nut Covered not Nut Filled.  I prefer to only eat brownies like myself: nutty on the inside.

We did make it home in time for Ash Wednesday and home school co-op.

While in Texas, and along the way home, I took some neat photos.

{pretty} The pair of swans who roam the Lake/River in Austin.

I rarely ask the children 'why' when I hand over the camera. Pigeons are an exotic birds in Indiana. Oops, I'm sorry, Rock Doves. (The children insist I use the 'correct' name.)

This pigeon's picture was captured as it wove itself in and out amongst the tables at Whole Foods, followed by my children. I felt moderately sorry for the hapless foodies whose lunch they may have disturbed, but not sorry enough to stop them.

The State Shrine, formerly a Roman Catholic Shrine. I'd tell you about the special tour we had, but that's a state secret.

I just love my new hair stylist!

The coolest thing we saw was a Bald Eagle bathing. This eagle's wing had been shot off by hunters. It was in an open air space surrounded by walls and water.

Well, all these photos were from Texas. Fantastic! Now I can make at least 3 or 4 posts from the others!

I realize, in retrospect, I should have taken some pictures of my hotel rooms for this post to give it that homey touch. Unfortunately hotel rooms are so generic and unworthy of blogland.
